Ward’s Streak Broken

16 11 2010

Hines Ward’s 186 consecutive games with a  catch –a Steelers record– was broken on Sunday. He was left without a catch when, what appeared to be, his only catch was overturned after he was injured. He ends this streak with only four games shy of second place on the all-time list, Marvin Harrison (190), and and 88 shy of Jerry Rice’s 274 game streak.

While he never would have caught Rice, as Ward only has about 25 to 30 games left in his career, he almost certainly would have passed Harrison.

Even without that he still holds the Steelers record for consecutive games with a catch and he is sure to be happy with that. Its amazing how a receiver as unselfish as Ward would accomplish this feat, especially given the physical way he plays. Congratulations Hines, what a wonderful career you have had and go for a new streak until the curtain finally closes on your career…
