Reed Clears Waivers, Turns Down Two Offers

18 11 2010

Jeff Reed –the now ex-Steeler– cleared waivers Wednesday and quickly declined two offers. “We had three calls and two offers,” Reed’s agent said. “But we’re not going to kick this weekend.”

With Reed clearing waivers, the Steelers are responsible for the remaining salary this year, $1.16 million.

All signs were pointing to Reed signing with the Cincinnati Bengals, with Mike Nugent on IR, they were obviously one of the two teams to make him an offer. That will probably never come to fruition, unless Reed changes his mind about kicking this weekend, as the Bengals need to sign a kicker before Sunday’s game against the Bills.

New Orleans may be a good fit for Reed as Garrett Hartley has struggled with his accuracy and they have proven in the past to have no loyalty to Hartley. As would the Bills, Dallas, Green Bay, Washington or possibly Detroit (depending on Jason Hanson’s health). The bills are the least likely as their current kicker has a long tenur in Buffalo (7 years) and has been consistent throughout his career –then again so was Reed.

Jeff may be mortgaging his season by taking this week off as the Bengals were the perfect fit and the other teams would all require the release of their current Kicker.
